screen saver

Is anyone having trouble with the screen saver? I set it to 45 mins and it never kicks in... no matter what I set it at..

Which particular screensaver are you trying? I got Windows Energy to kick in, but Bubbles refuses to work except in Preview :(

Do you by any chance have a second monitor attached? I found that the 'extend my desktop to this display' was checked by default...turning it off got the screensavers working again on my main desktop. Except for Bubbles.

To Andre, To All:
That makes perfect sense--except that I have a non-WDDM hardware based graphics driver (dumb, pre-knowledgable, decision) that runs Ribbon and Aurora--but not Energy. Or at least not in full screen--the "monitor" on the Screensaver menu will display Energy, but it won't display full screen; when I try to run it, I get a "this screensaver can't run because it requires functionality not available on your hardware-based graphics card." (Intel 910GML, Gateway M280e, 1.8GHz; Vista RC1; Build 5600).
As I mentioned, though, Ribbon and Aurora, work fine. Thoughts on the discrepancy?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or pontifications. All the best.

If you are referring to screensavers like Aurora, Ribbon and Energy, those require that you have WDDM capable card that DX 9 compliant. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta "Jim" wrote in message The screen saver has never worked on any build for me. The only time it works is when I first boot up and don't log in. After logging in, it has never worked. I don't have the problem in XP.
Does any one else have the same problem.

I had another post which confirmed your suspicion. Thanks.

I think the RANDOM setting does that. Haven't played around with it enough yet

I'm a little late to the thread, but don't forget, one of the options is a "Black and White" effect.
So I'd guess what's happening is that while using random, it's simply choosing the Black and White effect and that's when you're seeing no color . .. . not a bug or glitch, but the effect doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

Mic,
You
are absolutely correct. I had not even looked at the drop down list below "random". I just thought "random" would be good and let it go at that. I didn't know that there was a "black & white" effect option. Thanks for finally enlightening me on this.

No problem Ron, just a simple case of forgetting to RTFM. :-D
It happens to all of us from time to time. Just don't let it happen again. ;-) J/K

If the Photos screen saver is set to random themes some of the pictures will be displayed in black and white.
Click Settings and view the options for themes.

I also had some unfortunate experience with this beast. Scummy crooks prowl the Internet. I used Spybot S&D to clean it out from the registry. They set up bogus websites to letch into your machine. My secretary wanted to check something about her little dog's kidney problems and clicked on that trap unsuspected. This ugly monster showed up.

Is anyone having any problems with the screen saver?? I can only get it to work when it set to 1 min, anything over 1 min and the screen saver will not kick in.

Yes, I seem to be having sporadic problems. Some times it will work and other times not. I haven't paid a lot of attention to it as yet, I've started shutting the monitor off when I leave for any length of time.

I'm not seeing that problem. It kicks in when it's supposed to, but the screen blanks on only my primary monitor. On the secondary monitor, the screen saver runs, but the Windows desktop is still displayed. Curious.
