Hence no screensaver should ever pop-up. I wrote my own utility to prevent the screen saver from running, but I took a different approach with it. Instead of simulating activity periodically, I actually intercept the notification that the OS sends out just prior to starting the screen saver.

Hello all, I am trying to write a WSH script that toggles on and off the Windows screen saver. Using regedit I have found what keys get modified, but the script does not work... I think there needs to be a "update desktop" command at the end. Anybody have a clue? I know this is not really portable.

The file may be in a cab. Seems it would be easy enough to grab it out of a system set up with Windows 98 if you can.

I've been thinking about how a javascript based screen saver could be developed which would draw images from a website. During the display of each image, the next image could be downloaded. Upon timer expiration, the next image is displayed. Repeat until 10 or so images are loaded, then cycle.

Distributing screensaver setting
The common denominator with this "screensaver has stopped working" error is Vista x64 with an nVidia 8000 series gpu, which would suggest to me something not quite right with the nVidia 64 bit drivers. Are you using the drivers as-is, or have you made any changes/tweaks via the nVidia gpu control panel?
